Teflon hose is used in many aircraft systems due to its superior quality for certain applications. Teflon is compounded from a substance which is unaffected by fluids normally used in the aircraft. It has an operating range of -65 F to 450 F. This is why it is used in hydraulic and engine lubricating systems where pressure and temperature prohibit the use of rubber hose. Even though it has excellent performance qualities, it also has some peculiar characteristics which require an extra care in handling it. One should never try to straighten a hose which has been in service.
